Erik Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1 and Monet

"I don't think I've ever heard this piece before in my life, but listening to it for the first time now, it feels like it's an old friend. I wonder if

my tears are from the music or from my own reflection."

This comment at Youtube expresses the feeling of many people when listen to this music for the first time.

I hope this is the soundtrack for August: quietness and peacefully.

At the left Monet's 1905 Water Lilles.

The video was done by Radchenko who did a sensible and beautiful work adding images to this great music.

It was one of the reasons why I decided to post the video and also because this is a must-listen music.

Click and see for yourself.

Rickie Lee Jones' "It Must Be Love": Dare to love

It Must Be Love

It must be love that whispers in my ear

It must be love we keep trying

Cuz I imagined this kind of wonderful choice

I imagine you hear the very same voice

When I speak to you

You say "That's just my imagination"

Oh no, no, no

It Must Be Love

It Must Be Love

Perhaps one girl who was moving in a fine line

Finds one boy in back

That she can always stand behind

And it's you and me

Cuz that's where we want to be

Oh, It Must Be Love,

It Must Be Love

People look through everything they see

Cuz there's so many other things to be

I have seen you walking in the rain

I wanted to know why you were crying

I wanna fix what's wrong...

It must be love the sailor sails for

Must be love that drives a bottle to the bottom of the ocean floor

Because I imagine all kinds of wonderful water

I would have you there wherever I'll go

Way from the seventh sea,

He brings the bottle back to me

Oh, It Must Be Love

Oh, It Must Be Love

People look through everything they see

There's so many other things to be

I have seen you walking in the rain

I want to know why you were crying

Baby, let me fix what's wrong...

It must be love that fathoms the moonlight

Must be love that shallows

The deepest part of the night

So you can show them with your eye

The things that make them cry,

Because that Must Be Love

It Must Be Love...

And the way you are

Must Be Love

And the things you Feel

Oh, It Must Be Love,

Oh, It Must Be Love

Must Be Love

DARE TO LOVE!!!!!!!!! have a great July

John Lennon's Mind Games

Mind Games

John Lennon

We're playing those mind games together

Pushing the barriers planting seeds

Playing the mind guerrilla

Chanting the Mantra peace on earth

We all been playing those mind games forever

Some kinda druid dudes lifting the veil

Doing the mind guerrilla

Some call it magic the search for the grail

Love is the answer and you know that for sure

Love is a flower you got to let it grow

So keep on playing those mind games together

Faith in the future out of the now

You just can't beat on those mind guerrillas

Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind

Yeah we're playing those mind games together

Projecting our images in space and in time

Yes is the answer and you know that for sure

Yes is surrender you got to let it go

So keep on playing those mind games together

Doing the ritual dance in the sun

Millions of mind guerrillas

Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel

Keep on playing those mind games together

Raising the spirit of peace and love

(I want you to make love, not war

I know you've heard it before)

Ellan Vannin

It was a sad day today in our neighboring town of Thame at Robin Gibbs funeral. He had lived for 30 years in the Old Rectory across from St. Mary’s Church and was well known and liked in the town. His casket was draped in the flag of Ellan Vannin, the name in Manx Gaelic of The Isle of Man, where he and his brothers were born. The Bee Gees adapted a poem of the same name as a song which ends with the words which seem so appropriate today;

“And in all my times of sorrow
And on some lonely shore
I'll go back to Ellan Vannin
To my childhood days once more”

The Isle of Man in the middle of the Irish Sea is a truly unique and beautiful place inhabited since 6,500 BC and never incorporated into either the Roman Empire (Julius Caesar referred to it as Mona in 54 BC) nor is it part of The United Kingdom, the Commonwealth or the European Union (EU). ). Its parliament, the Tynwald is of Celtic / Norse origin and over 1,000 years old, and is the oldest parliament in the world with an unbroken existence.

It had a unique Gaelic-Norse culture and the motto on its three legged (Trie Cassyn) flag is;Quocunque jeceris stabit– loosely translated as “wherever I’m thrown, I will stand” – probably a fair summation of Robin Gibbs life and achievements.

Villa-Lobos's Bachiana nº 5 on Egberto Gismonti's piano

Any Brazilian will have to restraint the tears especially from 02:21 on.

Unfortunately Brazilian geniuses are not known, sometimes not even by some Brazilians, and it

seems they will keep unknown since a certain culture is kind off censured because they are not

being transmitted.

Business, science, and an insane concern with security prevails. People have no time for anything but...

I don't know. Fearing?

The experience from a music like this touches a place, a part of human condition, that nothing

else can touch.

It's a painful state of bliss. The beauty aches. Maybe few people have the strength to deal with

such a feeling or exposing people to it makes them realize many things that are forbidden.

Missing you: Nataly singing I'll be seeing you

I'll be seeing you

In all the old familiar places

That this heart of mine embraces

All day through

In the small cafe

The park across the way

The childrens carosel

The chestnut tree

The wishing well

I'll be seeing you

In every lovely summer's day

In everything thats light and gay

I'll always think of you that way

I'll find you in the morning sun

And when the night is new

I'll be looking at the moon

But i'll be seeing you.

Dusty

Today (16 April 1939) is the birthday of Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien OBE whose father Gerard Anthony O'Brien (a tax accountant) hailed from Co. Clare and her mother Catherine Ryle from Co. Kerry, Ireland. Born in Hampstead, She grew up in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and went to St Anne's Convent School, Little Ealing Lane, Northfields, West London.

She began her singing career in a 'Girl Group' called the Lana Sisters during the late 1950s. The Lana Sisters never managed to get a chart hit though they were familiar performers to British TV viewers. They probably came closest with a version of 'Seven Little Girls' which they made with Al Saxon who took the male vocals. Her first taste of real success came when she teamed up with her brother Tom Springfield (Dion O'Brien) and his friend Tim Field. Together they formed the 'Springfields' who produced a blend of 'folk' and pop that audiences were ready for at the beginning of the 1960s.

She died in Henley on Thames on the 2nd March 1999. Her funeral service was attended by hundreds of fans and people from the music business, including Elvis Costello, Lulu, and the Pet Shop Boys.  A marker dedicated to her memory was placed in the church graveyard of the ancient parish church of St Mary the Virgin. Some of her ashes were buried at Henley, while the rest were scattered by her brother, Tom Springfield (Dion O’Brien), at the Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland.

Each year her fans gather in Henley to celebrate "Dusty Day" on the closest Sunday to her birthday (16 April) and an annual Dusty Day fundraiser is held in London with the proceeds going to the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital.

Respect and love to Dusty Springfield.

Is this love?

Compared to many over-hyped, over directed and over expensive music videos the 1978 video for Bob Marley and The Wailers “Is this love” is a wonderful paean to honesty and simplicity. The honesty comes from Bob’s obvious rapport with the children (including a seven year old Naomi Campbell) in this converted church near King’s Cross and from the fact that the Keskidee Centre where it was shot was not just the a Black cultural centre, at the time it was the only black cultural centre in the city where Bob and the Wailers spent some of their most productive years. It was close to his first London home in Camden so he would have known the area well.

34 Ridgmount Gardens, Camden, WC1E, was the first official London address of the star in 1972. He later moved with his fellow band members the Wailers to various other locations in London including Old Church Street, Chelsea, and Queensborough Terrace, Bayswater.

Now the church in London where Bob Marley filmed the video for his “Is This Love song” has been destroyed by fire yesterday 8thMarch 2012. About 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at the Christ Apostolic Church in King's Cross on Thursday night. The three-storey building has been severely damaged and 20 people had to be evacuated from adjacent properties.

The 1978 video was filmed at the building which was home to Keskidee, thought to be the UK's first cultural centre for the black community. The Keskidee Centre was founded in 1971. It became known for its theatre productions and toured Europe, the US and New Zealand. As well as being chosen by Bob Marley to shoot his video - starring a young Naomi Campbell - the centre also laid claim to be the birth place of dub poetry, created by its one-time educational officer Linton Kwesi Johnson.  Speaking in a BBC Radio 4 documentary about the venue in 2009 Linton Kwesi Johnson said: "The Keskidee Centre was unique. As a young person growing up and becoming politically and culturally conscious, it was fantastic. There was nowhere else that you could find that kind of ambience to nurture creativity." For many years, it was the only place to experience black theatre in London.

Unveiling of green plaque to mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Keskidee Centre.

The centre closed in 1991 following funding problems and the building was bought by the Christ Apostolic Church. Last April, Islington Council unveiled a green plaque - which honours notable Islington residents and places in the north London borough - on the building to mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Keskidee Centre.

The Green Plaque, which honours notable Islington residents and places, was unveiled last year by David Lammy, the Labour MP for Tottenham. He said at the time: “As the son of Guyanese parents and one of only a few black and ethnic minority MPs, I am honoured to see the plaque unveiled. It marks a point in our history. The plaque means that long after we’re gone, children will be able to walk past the building and ask their parents about what it means and learn about the important history of the local community.”

Now, sadly, it looks as if another piece of London’s rich multi-cultural history may be lost.

Child Of The Ghetto (UK Remix) - KOF ft. Kobi Onyame, Lioness & Wrigz

Dáithaí C has long tipped that talented purveyor of chunky Urban Beatz from the Pool KOF for greater things. KOF draws both on the gritty urban reality of Liverpool and the values of his Ghanaian roots to develop the sharp take on life articulated in his music. He has been making an increasing impact including on MTV and at MOBO. Just released 'Child of the Ghetto' is the new single by singer-songwriter, KOF.

The track is currently riding high on a number of national and regional radio station playlists, including BBC Radio 1Xtra, Unity Radio, Reprezent, Bang Radio, KCC Live, with strong support from BBC Radio 1 and Capital Network.

KOF recruits Kobi Onyame (from Glasgow), Lioness (from London) and Wrigz (from Manchester) for the UK remix to give some regional perspectives on the theme.

'Child of the Ghetto' single pack is out March 25th on iTunes.

Heitor Villa-Lobos's 125th Birthday anniversary: Bachianas Brasileiras 5

Today is Villa-Lobos birthday anniversary. He would be 125 years old and I did choose Bachianas Brasileiras 5 to celebrate since it is one of the his most famous music

The aria can also be listen at YouTube with Kiri te Karawa, with her incredible voice.

A good present to the composer would be if those publishers around the world which claim they have the copyrights of many of his masterpieces where given back to Brazilians.

About the Bachianas Brasileiras:

"The Bachianas Brasileiras constitute a series of nine suites by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, written for various combinations of instruments and voices between 1930 and 1945. They represent not so much a fusion between Brazilian folk and popular music on the one hand, and the style of Johann Sebastian Bach on the other, as an attempt freely to adapt a number of Baroque harmonic and contrapuntal procedures to Brazilian music (Béhague 1994, 106; Béhague 2001). Most of the movements in each suite have two titles: one "Bachian" (Preludio, Fuga, etc.), the other Brazilian (Embolada, O canto da nossa terra, etc.)."

Happy Birthday Master!

Frankie and Johnny: "No matter what..."

I always watch movies with Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino and in "Frankie and Johnny" Frankie, Pacino's character keeps telling Johnny, Pfeiffer's,  that they are meant to be together.

Check this ending scene.

It will make you want to know the whole story and listen to Debussy's "Claire de Lune".

Some Americans are "All Gone to look for America"

America (click one second)

by Paul Simon

"Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together
I've got some real estate here in my bag"

So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America

"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now."
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said "Be careful, his bowtie is really a camera"

"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat."
"We smoked the last one an hour ago."
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

"Kathy, I'm lost" I said, though I knew she was sleeping
"I'm empty and aching and I don't know why..."
Counting the cars on the New Jersey turnpike
They've all gone to look for America

All gone to look for America
All gone to look for America

In the city of Saginaw, where the song was written, the street artist Eric Shantz started to spray-paint lyrics of the song America by Simon and Garfunkel in vacant buildings and some people joined him.
This is a very special song and each phrase written in such a simple way touches numerous aspects of our individuality and our relation with our city and country.

I listened yesterday this song and I remembered the feeling I had when I was a teenager. It still have the same power but at least "the man in the gabardine suit", that was the constant surveillance of dictatorship, is gone.
Other types of spying are being done but that is the way it is. I'm dedicating this post to all the Americans who are trying hard to look for America.

Sweet Charity: the adventures of a girl who wanted to be loved starring Shirley Maclaine

Sweet Charity: the adventures of a girl who wanted to be loved, 1969, starring Shiley MacLaine directed and  awarded choreographed by Bob Fosse, the Cabaret's filmmaker, is the great movie I did chose to start the year.

It was originally a 1966 Broadway production also directed by Bob Fosse that was inspired by a
What amazes is that it is timeless whether you consider the story or the choreography, the costumes, music and sounds arrengements and it was the first movie Bob Fosse worked as a filmmaker as well as a choreographer starting a very successful career.

The movie has many fans and still astonishes the young generation that was born in the clip era and inevitably compares it to some of today's clips. There are some elements that are in fashion today in clothes, make-up, Charity having a tattoo and the environment they create.

The most important aspect I did choose is Charity optimism always ready for the next adventure that might break her heart again but "living hopefully ever after." is her fate that is already inscribed in her name Charity Hope Valentine.

Shirley MacLaine is perfect for the role with her kind off girlish movements and innocence.

The three videos are the most known ant the two that have been receiving new interpretations are "Big Spender" and "The Aloof". There are some at YouTube like The Pussycat Dolls, this version of some Canadian girls for "Big Spender".

I tried to publish the videos that only shows the dancing but they are not available. You can skip the first minute and go straight to the dancing part. The music "Big Spender" is a little catchy and you may find yourself singing "Hey, big spender!" or "Do you wanna have fun, fun fun?..." but it I assure it will go away.

Great movie, great performances, great choreography that inaugurated some trends and is still new. Some of the scenes of Prince's "Get Off" and "Kiss" clips reminded of it.

KOF is a contender!

KOF

Dáithaí C has long tipped that talented purveyor of chunky Urban Beatz from the Pool KOF for greater things. KOF draws both on the gritty urban reality of Liverpool and the values of his Ghanaian roots to develop the sharp take on life articulated in his music. 'Be Like You' is the second single from the forthcoming project by KOF and finds him standing up for the purity of music and its purpose. Now in an interview with CNN he has received prestigious endorsement from Kanya King as one of her five favourite artists.

Kanya King is the founder of the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards which aims to elevate black music and culture to mainstream popular status both in the UK and internationally. King chooses her five favourite artists of the moment for CNN.

"Now KOF is an artist who shows it's not just the artists from London who have a big future ahead of them. We rate the young man from Liverpool so highly that we made sure MOBO TV shot an acoustic session with him and one of the songs we were lucky enough to hear live was "Be Like You."

Kanya King founder of the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards

The singer/songwriter's second single is getting huge support from the UK radio stations like 1Xtra and Choice FM, and rightly so. He is re-injecting true soul music back in the public eye and I can only support this as soul music is the first genre of music I fell in love with. It was one of the reasons why I started up the MOBO Awards in 1996.

Apart from, of course, Adele, there are not enough musicians out there who can really touch your inner self like the greats, such as Aretha Franklin, could many years ago. Obviously, these artists are plying their trade in the UK, but KOF, however, is getting the recognition he deserves quicker than most.

As for the acoustic session KOF gave, it is definitely a special and intimate performance that you can see when you have a few minutes."

Dirty Fucking Hippies were Right! transcription and song

This video appeared and nobody knows who did the rant, the edition, the melody... nothing. Still it tells some truth. Worthy listening since...
"Peace is never discussed. Peace has somehow become a pejorative..." The Big Pharma and their fake concern wit health selling medicines that kill...

Update:
I just found the transcription at Daily Kos:
But something puzzles me. How can a revolution forgets to manifest culturally? Is it possible to revolutionize talking about economy, politics and ranting but without creating not even a tiny symbol that communicates what is the desire of people?
This song(?) is the result of the lack of a anti-establishment culture in US and in the whole world.
A song that raises the issues enumerating them but incapable of reaching hearts and minds and with no cultural print.
Appealing to the hippies was the way out but I doubt that people is willing not to wash their hair or behave the old hippie way and it is sad that this soapbox song refers to them the way they are called by those who hate their message.
Again it seems that creativity is way out of reach and without it, without art, literature, music, and all the "humanities" a crucial part of human beings vanishes.
When the imagination is not exercised, exited, and capable of creating, analyzing, and criticizing it is easier to control the thoughts and desires of the population, not people because they don't see people, they see numbers.
Fighting for education that is not financed and dictate by the corporations is also part of this revolution.
The alleged counter-establishment group "Anonymous" took a mask from a movie.
Have you noticed that in this movie, "V de Vendetta", there are books, paintings, sculptures, a whole iconography of the weapons that revolutionaries use to express their ideas?
"Bullets don't kill an ideal."
Take a good look at the black and white photography above and tell us what you see.

The Dirty Fucking Hippies were Right!

"Flag planting on Iwo Jima. Tug-of-war with dollar sign. Headline: U.S. economy worsens. Chart heading sharply down “Class Is Now in Recession”.

“There’s a black granite wall in Washington DC that bears 58,260 names on it. All of those whose names that are carved on that wall are dead. For what? Freedom?.

“If this country had listened when kids were screaming to stop that slaughter, that wall would have been one hell of a lot shorter.

“Yet we as a nation still wage wars of choice. Wars encouraged by plutocrats who never have to fight them.

“Peace is never discussed. Peace has somehow become a perjorative.

“Peace is no perjorative. Peace is essential to the survival of the human race. And those who advocate for war are a dangerous and fearful group who should be marginalized and disavowed.

“War is always the last choice. The dirty fucking hippies … were right.

“Now the oceans have been rising. The polar ice is melting at alarming rates. The climate is changing in irreversible ways. Our survival as a species on this planet is on a precipice.

“The science on this is clear. Humans are now in trouble. Because of our reckless stewardship of what we dominated, we have polluted this fragile jewel that hangs in space – our only home.

“We’ve elected sociopath after sociopath for the last 30 years, to every level of government. – many of them slaves to corporate parasites that gorge themselves at the public trough, while the most vulnerable people in our society – the sick, the young, and the elderly – go wanting.

“The food we buy is contaminated. The toys we give our children as presents for Christmas are tainted with poisons. The water we drink is rife with carcinogens. The fish in our seas, lakes and rivers are so full of mercury that it’s only recommended that we eat them once per week.
“We have now come face to face with our own extinction.

“I hate to say ‘I told you so,’ but the dirty fucking hippies … were right.

“Billions of dollars of profits are being snitched up at the expense and suffering of our neighbors by the jackals that comprise our pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies. Both of which pipe their diagnostic wisdom and their fake concern right into our homes via TV and radio commercials.
“These legal drug dealers now sell their wares with impunity. And the insurance gamblers perform a slick game of three-card monte right in our living rooms.

“Most of these drugs have a list of caveats that would make even the most dishonest used car salesman blush. And the insurance hustlers change the rules of the game just when it’s time to pay up – profiting from the suffering and pain and others, profiting from human frailty.

“Universal healthcare? ‘It’s too expensive,’ we’re told. Gasbags talking heads on TV and radio have been complicit in this deception, while being handsomely compensated for their assistance.

“I’ll say it again: the dirty fucking hippies … were right.

“Big box discount stores descend upon small towns in America like alien ships, filled with cheap products bought at low prices from countries that pay their workers slave wages. Plutocrats love this business model!
“Mom and Pop shops can’t compete with prices set by these huge corporate parasites and, to no one’s surprise, many small businesses in these tiny hamlets fail, leaving small towns filled with empty storefronts and even, in some cases, forcing these same small business operators to go to work for the very people that ruined their livelihoods.

“Small-town America is subsequently decimated by this invasion. Often helpless in stopping it.

“Wall Street has cannibalized itself. Still hungry, feeling the pangs of their greed, they’ve now come to the government for their daily meal. And still, without a hint of irony, a spokesman for this ravenous tribe mounts his soapbox and has the temerity to rail against the ‘evils of Socialism’.
“Turns out the Socialism is for them. The Capitalism is for us.

“Abbie Hoffman once baited these banksters by throwing cash onto the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. To no one’s astonishment, they demonstrated their insatiable greed. The gluttons couldn’t help themselves – they stopped trading, got on their knees, and swept up the free loot.

“Wall Street should have been reined in long ago.

“I’ll say it again: The dirty fucking hippies … were right!”

Lennon's mystery of "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" debunked

Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite

John Lennon

For the benefit of Mr. Kite

There will be a show tonight on trampoline

The Hendersons will all be there

Late of Pablo Fanques Fair-what a scene

Over men and horses hoops and garters

Lastly through a hogshead of real fire!

In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world!

The celebrated Mr. K.

Performs his feat on Saturday at Bishopsgate

The Hendersons will dance and sing

As Mr. Kite flys through the ring don't be late

Messrs. K and H. assure the public

Their production will be second to none

And of course Henry The Horse dances the waltz!

The band begins at ten to six

When Mr. K. performs his tricks without a sound

And Mr. H. will demonstrate

Ten summersets he'll undertake on solid ground

Having been some days in preparation

A splendid time is guaranteed for all

And tonight Mr. Kite is topping the bill.

I love this song. This is the story:

"Lennon was inspired to write the song by a 19th century circus poster for Pablo Fanque's Circus Royal that he purchased in an antique shop in on 31 January 1967, while filming the promotional video for "Strawberry Fields Forever" in Sevenoaks, Kent.[ Lennon said that

"Everything from the song is from that poster, except the horse wasn't called Henry." (The poster identifies the horse as "Zanthus".) Mr. Kite is believed to be William Kite, who worked for Pablo Fanque from 1843 to 1845." Wikipedia.
