Gush Etzion settlements pearl of Zionist tourism: "Eliminate the terrorist!"
Left: Five-year-old Tamara Brown fires clay bullets at “terrorists.” Israeli settlers from Gush Etzion run a shooting range for tourists where they can “pretend-shoot a terror operative…hear stories from the battleground, watch a simulated assassination of terrorists by guards, and fire weapons at the range.”

I found this article and felt like sharing:
Zionist shock tourism draws ‘em in
West Bank shooting ranges welcome kids, teach them to ‘eliminate terrorists
June 18, 2012, 1:35 pm
by Hillary Zaken
"Imagine for a moment a group of American tourists, deep in the West Bank, clad in comfortable clothes, tennis shoes, and baseball caps, chanting together “Eliminate the terrorist!”
Welcome to a demonstration of the hottest Israeli tourism trend of the summer: extreme Zionist tourism.
Visitors from around the world are welcomed to such shooting ranges as Caliber 3 in Efrat, which offers a two-hour “anti-terrorism” program for tourists of all ages which “combine[s] together the values of Zionism with the excitement and enjoyment of shooting which makes the activity more meaningful,” according to their site.
Tourists seeking something a bit more exciting than the usual tours of holy sites and archaeological digs, with stops on the beaches of the Mediterranean, can venture into the Gush Etzion settlement bloc, where the shooting instructors of Caliber 3 will teach them how to fend off terrorists.
Michel Braun, 40, from Miami, told Yedioth Ahronoth that he had arrived at the range with his children “to instill values in them.” Even his five-year-old Tamara, participated, shooting clay bullets from a real weapon at targets set up on a wall.
“This is part of their education,” Braun said, “So that they know where they are from, and of course to get a little action.”
“This is tourism with added value,” said Davidi Perl, the head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council to Yedioth. “An experience like this… can create worldwide recognition for Gush Etzion as a pearl of tourism."

Russia flotilla in Syrian port of Tartus: Just browsing around to say Hello!

Take a look at the news below about Russian flotilla in the Syrian port of Tartus. Try to solve the puzzle:
What on earth is Russia planning to do?
MOSCOW, July 26 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s navy chief said on Thursday that a flotilla of Russian warships off the coast of Syria would not dock at a port leased by Moscow in the violence-stricken Middle East country.
“The joint fleet flotilla will not enter the port of Tartus,” Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov told journalists. “It is carrying out military drills in the Mediterranean.”
Source: RiaNovosti.
Published: 26 July, 2012
"Allied forces including intelligence operatives and special forces have reinforced their presence on the ground in Syria following the UN stalemate. Meanwhile, coinciding with the UN Security Council deadlock, Moscow has dispatched to the Mediterranean a flotilla of ten Russian warships and escort vessels led by the Admiral Chabanenko anti-submarine destroyer. Russia's flotilla is currently stationed off the Southern Syrian coastline."

"If the lives of the personnel at the Russian naval base in the Syrian port of Tartus are put at serious risk, they may be evacuated, Russia’s Navy chief says. This comes as Russia holds a major naval drill not far from the Syrian coast.
“If an emergency happens, we will remove the base’s personnel,” Vice-Adm. Viktor Chirkov told Echo Moscow radio Saturday, when asked what the Russian military would do if the base at the Syrian port Tartus came under attack.
He added that it would be up to the Russian president to order such a move."

Verbal abuse: the underrated psychological violence

When I noticed that verbal abuse is being used in discussions, comments and in daily life I thought it was only in specific places till I talked virtually to a French man who told me that it is also happening in France, and, in English we have numerous examples at social networks, comments on blogs, chat rooms, in short, whenever people are communicating.
Verbal abuse in public can be witnessed by everybody and the abuser may have some people to defend them.
Domestic verbal abuse is different: many times the person who is abused has to deal with it in silence.
I found this article by Pielmorena at Allvoices that approach the topic:
"Verbal abuse, often utter to humiliate, defame and demoralize other. It’s a hostile language that can hurt one ear. It is also known as “reviling’. The abuser may intentionally or unintentionally express an abusive behavior in form of battering someone involving the use of profanity, without physical strain like blows, strikes or punches.
This deliberately throwing of harsh words sometimes it’s undeniably out of provocation rooted from a bad flow of communication, such as fight or argument, or unhealthy debate, whilst the abuser may forcibly or willingly utter to cause harm or to simply defend oneself like a counterattack nor reciprocation. Whilst most of the verbal abuser express hurting offensive words merely out of habit to cause pain in order to trigger the target’s emotion. Through assassination they can get the attention and the participation they need from their target.
Outburst, rages, foul words, swearing, malicious statements, insult, verbal assaults, nasty comments, name-calling are some forms of verbally abusive act that may ressolve to attack, harrass and harm someone particularly inflicting pychological violence.
These types of abuse is free from evidence for it leaves no visible scar, welt, wound or bruise. Most of the time the victim suffer in silence and isolation. Tending to become outbalanced, confused and stress. The victim noticebly has low self-esteem and afraid to open up or express oneself. They became aloof and undergone depression in the long run.
Apparently large percentage of these cases happen privately. And everybody can be a miserable victim and everyone without excuse can play as a perpetrator. Unfortunately there are no corresponding law in U.S. that responsible into this momentarily. But there are numerous groups established to give support and helping hand to aid the victim of verbal abuse.
Think first before you open your big mouth. Be sensible and considerate to the feelings of others. Handle words with care. Avoid regretting for something that you wish you didn’t said for words once said you cannot take it back it is irreversible. it’s like a gunshot once fire, it can get straight to the target and it can kill. If you got nothing good to say. Better not say anything. Just keep your mouth shut."

Pharmageddon by David Healy: Another book about the crimes committed by medicine

While people are discussing the health care in US people are being put on drugs with low benefits and a huge amount of risks.
This is another book about the creepy story of how Americans are being silently killed by drugs prescribed by physicians. What happens in America happens in many countries around the world.
The list of books written by physicians is getting longer. I wrote a post about John le Carrè's "The Constant Gardener", John Braithwaite "Corporate Crime in the Pharmaceutical Industry", and many posts about medicine.
This is another one.
You should visit David Healy's blog: and take a look at what he is writing and also at the other books he wrote.
The first time I read about the concept of Pharmageddon was at Charles Medawar site Social Audit. Here is where it's described,
This is what is written about Pharmageddon at Dr. David Healy's site and I have to disagree with the part where it is said that physicians fail to recognize the side effects of the drugs because they are under a Stockholm Syndrome and there is no help for those who suffer such a condition.
It is amazing that after all that is being written and all the clinical data physicians behave as if nothing was happening but excusing them because they suffer from a condition that has no cure sounds out of this planet.
Iatrogenesis is the third cause of death in America. Still physicians don't know about it?
No. If physicians suffer from any disease it would be blindness but who but the blinds on is what has to be discussed.
_________________________________________________
"Pharmaceutical companies have hijacked healthcare in America, and the results are life-threatening.
Dr. David Healy documents a riveting and terrifying story that affects us all.
Pharmageddon is the story of a tragedy.
"In 1962 a sleeping pill called thalidomide caused a horrific drug disaster whose emblematic images of limbless and handicapped babies born to distraught mothers linger to this day.The United States Congress swung into action. They wanted to prevent such a tragedy happening again. They were also determined to rein in the marketing excesses of the pharmaceutical industry. Three steps were taken.
First, new drug development was rewarded with product rather than process patents. Second, new drugs were made available on a prescription only basis. Third, new drugs had to prove they worked through controlled trials before they could be marketed.
In 1962 it looked like these steps would make for safer and more effective drugs and ultimately reduced healthcare costs.
In 1962 it looked like these steps would make for safer
and more effective drugs and reduced healthcare costs.
On the 50th anniversary of the 1962 FDA bill enacted by Congress, Pharmageddon shows how these very arrangements have led to an escalating number of drug induced death and injury, how in some areas of medicine drug induced death is the commonest form of death, and how the costs of treating these problems exceed the costs of the entire drugs budget.
Medicine and the marketers
Pharmageddon also shows how these same changes have turbo-charged pharmaceutical industry marketing. The horrors are best caught by the example of the increasing numbers of pregnant women who religiously steer clear of alcohol, tobacco, soft cheeses, or anything that might harm their unborn child, but who are nonetheless being urged by their doctors to take drugs like the antidepressants — now the most commonly prescribed drugs in pregnancy — even as the evidence accumulates that these drugs cause birth defects, double the rate of miscarriages, and cause mental handicap in children born to mothers who have been taking them.
Pregnant women who religiously steer clear of alcohol, tobacco, soft cheeses, or
anything that might harm their unborn child are urged by their doctors to take antidepressants.
This example of a shepherding of innocents into pharmaceutical killing fields is not an isolated incident. Life expectancy in the US, the country that consumes most of the latest life-saving drugs is falling rapidly compared to the rest of the world. For diseases like schizophrenia, we are now doing 10 times worse in terms of life expectancy than we were 100 years ago.
Not even the FDA has access to the data.*
The means to protect ourselves from a recurrence of the thalidomide disaster have been our undoing. Product patents gave an incentive to pharmaceutical companies to produce blockbuster drugs — drugs that were so valuable to a company and its survival that the incentives to breach regulations and hide any safety data that might be inconvenient for the company are so huge that entire trials are hidden, that almost all trials are ghostwritten to ensure the data looks right, and no one, not even the FDA, has access to the data. (read the entire description at David Healy's site."
* If FDA had no access to the data now it has and is even helping the BIG PHARMA using artifices like evergreening.

Truth Commission to evaluate judges and prosecutors from Brazilian dictatorship

Rio de Janeiro Bar Association Announces Truth Commission and Memorial Development
Posted on June 29, 2012
"Following in the steps of the OAB of São Paulo, the OAB (Bar Association) of Rio de Janeiro announced on Thursday (the 28th) that they too would host their own Truth Commission. Wadih Damous, president of OAB-RJ, stated the commission would be working from within the state and national truth commissions to evaluate the judges and prosecutors from during the time of the dictatorship.
Damous also introduced the campaign to transform former torture centers into memorials. Locations sited for the campaign include the DOI-Codi (Department of Information Operations and Center for Internal Defense Operations) in Tijuca, the former DOPS ( Department of Social and Political Order) headquarters in Lapa, and the Casa da Morte (House of Death) in Petrópolis. Damous hopes that by memorializing these locations, younger generations will become interested in understanding the dictatorship and the price that was paid to bring about democracy. He believes that Brazil is ready to remember as is evident by the 45,000 signatures supporting the opening of the archives of the dictatorship for the Truth Commission."

When I started this post I didn't know from where to start. Most people have no idea about dictatorship in Brazil or in the other countries. Most people don't even know about Brazil. We speak Portuguese, the capital is Brazilian, not everybody love soccer and during carnival we get out of Rio de Janeiro because it is tourism time and we want quiet our mind.
Dictatorship started in 1964 and ended in 1985 but those who committed the crimes, torturing and killing political prisoners, were left alone. It is starting now the process of jurisprudence. We can't stand it anymore.
Little by little I'll make other posts about Brazilian dictatorship.
I found the "Transitional Justice in Brazil" from where I took the post above. They are doing a very good work:
Transitional Justice in Brazil
This blog is dedicated to exploring Brazil's transitional justice process - including the National Truth Commission, challenges to the Amnesty Law, and criminal trials of torturers - and memories of the Brazilian military dictatorship by covering the latest developments, highlighting articles in the Portuguese and English-language media, and publishing original content.

Roger Hayes: BBC doesn't consider British political prisoner a national interest issue
This is the e-mail answer I got from BBC (click the image to enlarge):
"... Factors such as whether it is news that has just come in and needs immediate coverage, how unusual the story is and how much national interest there is in the subject matter will all play a part in deciding the level of coverage and where it falls within a bulletin. Essentially this is a judgement call rather than an exact science but BBC News does appreciate the feedback when viewers and listeners feel we may have overlooked or neglected a story. ..."
I'm amazed. Roger Hayes was arrested, tried on a secret court and imprisoned as explained at this post.
BBC and all the mainstream media wants to cover up Roger Hayes imprisonment because this is what he stands for:
"As Chairman of the British Constitution Group, Roger Hayes has been an outspoken public speaker warning the British public that their rights and freedoms under Common Law and the Constitution are being stripped away and replaced by a dictatorship of secret courts operating under Administrative and Statute Law.
There is no doubt that his success in alerting ever more people to the dangers of the British / EU dictatorship being built by a criminal element now masquerading as British politicians, has caused the State to imprison Roger. His challenge to the fraudulent banking system, as evidenced by the criminal acts of Barclays bank and todays resignation by arch Bilderberger and BBC advisor Marcus Agius, will also have made Roger enemies within Britain's wide criminal banking cabal." (whole story here)
UK is being under a dictatorship very similar to US and the corporate media is doing the job they do in times like that: cover it all up. BBC didn't neglect the story: it didn't publish because Roger hayes is a political prisoner and events like his do not receive coverage of the media during dictatorship. Everything is censured. An act of lawful rebellion is not part of the interest of those who are in power being the mainstream media a part of them.

Octavio Paz on turning others into Nobody

I ask permission to Octavio Paz to use this excerpt in a different context. In his book "The Labyrinth of Solitude" Paz is talking about Mexico.
When I first read this excerpt it made me realize of some relations I had in my life and it was a revelation for me. It helped me understand serious issues about me.
I hope that it produces the same effect for those who are turned into Nobody and feel they belong nowhere.
As a human rights advocate Octavio Paz would be happy.
"We dissimulate in order to deceive ourselves, and turn transparent and phantasmal. But that is not the end of it: we also pretend that our fellow-man does not exist. This is not to say that we deliberately ignore or discount him. Our dissimulation here is a great deal more radical: we change him from somebody into nobody, into nothingness. And this nothingness takes on its own individuality, with a recognizable face and figure, and suddenly becomes Nobody.
Don No One, who is Nobody's Spanish father, is able, well fed, well respected; he has a bank account, and speaks in a loud, self-assured voice. Don No One fills the world with his empty, garrulous presence. He is everywhere, and has friends everywhere. He is a banker, an ambassador, a businessman. He can be seen in all the salons, and is honored in Jamaica and Stockholm and London. He either holds office or wields influence and his manner of not-being is aggressive and conceited. On the other hand, Nobody is quiet, timid, and resigned. He is also intelligent and sensitive. He always smiles. He always waits. When he wants to say something, he meets a wall of silence; when he greets someone, he meets a cold shoulder; when he pleads or weeps or cries out, his gestures and cries are lost in the emptiness created by Don No One's interminable chatter.
Nobody is afraid not to exist: he vacillates, attempting now and then to become Somebody. Finally, in the midst of his useless gestures, he disappears into the limbo from which he emerged.
It would be a mistake to believe that others prevent him from existing. They simply dissimulate his existence and behave as if he did not exist. They nullify him, cancel him out, turn him to nothingness. It is futile for Nobody to talk, to publish books, to paint pictures, to stand on his head. Nobody is the blankness in our looks, the pauses in our conversations, the reserve in our silences. He is the name we always and inevitably forget, the eternal absentee, the guest we never invite, the emptiness we can never fill. He is an omission, and yet he is forever present. He is our secret, our crime, and our remorse. Thus the person who creates Nobody, by denying Somebody's existence, is also changed into Nobody. And if we are all Nobody, then none of us exists." (emphasis added)
I hope that if you read it and can relate you realize that you were turned into nobody, or nothingness, only in the eyes of others but you are one and they cannot take that from you: you are their secret, their crime and remorse.
You are their agonizing conscience without which they cannot exist.

Complaint about no coverage by BBC of Roger Hayes' arbitrary imprisonment

I believe that we have to do all we can to stop these crimes against citizens
since we are all in this together and our lives are being affected in a very deep level.
It is not only about one country, one citizen: it is about all of us.
I just sent this complaint to BBC. click at the images to enlarge.

UK's Lawful Rebellion and The British Constitution Group
Roger Hayes, who was arrested today - refer to the post below - is the CEO of The British Constitution Group.
This is it what it stands for:
Reclaiming Our Sovereignty
Declaration By The British Constitution Group
ARTICLE | OCTOBER 7, 2008 - 2:48PM
"We, the British People have a right to govern ourselves. That right has been subjugated as a consequence of acts of treason having been committed by the collective political establishment, aided and abetted by corrupt segments of the judiciary, the police, the Church and the civil service.
Furthermore, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, whose position has been usurped by a corrupt House of Commons and who has been forced into the destruction of her Kingdom and the breaking of her coronation oath, no longer governs us in accordance with our laws and customs, as was the situation when she was elected by the people as our Sovereign and our Head of State.
Why Her Majesty has failed in her duty is not for us to judge at this point in time - Her Majesty has however been made aware of the situation and is now duty bound to make amends.
A political elite has for some time manipulated the electoral system to deprive the people of true democratic representation by constructing a party political system that has allowed, indeed encouraged, acts of treason to have been committed.
As a direct consequence of the betrayal of the British people by the collective political establishment, and others, the British Constitution Group is calling for Lawful Rebellion, as is our right under article 61 Magna Carta 1215.
Too many politicians pay lip-service to the principles of democracy whilst serving the interests of self and party, which has allowed patronage, greed and corruption to infect our system of governance to levels beyond anything that could be imagined or accepted by the British people. Whereas the British people have expected that the good elements within our system of governance would control and rein in the bad, it is now perfectly clear that rather than expose corruption and greed, the good elements have themselves become infected and corrupt."
Many people are not aware about what is happening in UK and with the arrest of Mr. Roger Hayes it is clear that things are getting worse in Britain.
The group The Lawful Rebellion is a source of videos, interviews and articles that raise awareness about how this world is being more and more similar to a dictatorial system.
Lawful Rebellion stands for a change in conscience:
"What you resist, persists
What you fight against you will become.
You cannot solve a problem with the same level of consicousness that created it."

Breaking News: Roger Hayes Arrested, Tried In Secret Court, Imprisoned
At 0930 this morning, in scenes reminiscent of Stasi East Germany, 2 police cars and 4 policemen from Merseyside Police arrested British Constitution Group Chairman Roger Hayes at his Wirral home and drove away.
ARTICLE | JULY 2, 2012 - 9:39PM
The first his family heard of him was at 18:30 this evening via a telephone call from a Warder in Liverpool prison, to say that Roger had been tried and sentenced to prison.
At no time were the family or any other members of the public informed of his arrest, and it is understood that he was tried in a secret court without a Jury.
Denied the right to argue his case, denied the right to a Jury, denied the right for the public to see justice being done, Roger was imprisoned in the secretive gulag system that Britain has become in 2012.
Roger's "crime" is that he has been refusing to pay his Council tax, because along with other state taxes, a proportion of the tax revenue gathered is being sent to the European Union, used to fund unlawful wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria, and promote terrorism right around the world. To pay tax under these circumstances is, at the very least, unlawful under Section 15(3) of the Terrorism Act 2000.
As such the present government of UK in Westminster is complicit to terrorist action and war crimes and therefore the payment of taxes to an unlawful, criminal regime is itself a criminal act - one in which Roger refused to participate.
The state has never forgiven him for the arrest of Judge Peake at Birkenhead court as part of this campaign.
In addition to his stance on taxes for unlawful purposes, Roger has also been campaigning for the Lawful Bank - a monetary initiative in which money can be issued to the public as credit, rather than as crippling debt under the existing corrupt and fraudulent International Monetary System.
As Chairman of the British Constitution Group, Roger Hayes has been an outspoken public speaker warning the British public that their rights and freedoms under Common Law and the Constitution are being stripped away and replaced by a dictatorship of secret courts operating under Administrative and Statute Law.
There is no doubt that his success in alerting ever more people to the dangers of the British / EU dictatorship being built by a criminal element now masquerading as British politicians, has caused the state to imprison Roger. His challenge to the fraudulent banking system, as evidenced by the criminal acts of Barclays bank and todays resignation by arch Bilderberger and BBC advisor Marcus Agius, will also have made Roger enemies within Britain's wide criminal banking cabal.
Roger's family is shocked both at his arrest, and at the realisation that Britain is now sliding into a police state, where husbands, fathers and other good people can be lifted off the streets and imprisoned. There is now no doubt that Britain is further under the control of domestic terrorists in Westminster.
We ask that all those who value their freedoms and liberty call Meryside Police for further information and an explanation of their actions, and also call Liverpool prison to establish Roger's physical safety and well-being.

Who is who in humanitarian aid in Syria: understand Syria conflict in four paragraphs
Things get so confused that it is hard to understand who is doing what to who with the help of who.
This article by Tony Cartalucci is very enlightening if you are lost. In two sentences:
US send a couple of armed people to the country and the media says that the people of the country is revolting. They need "humanitarian aid" and a bloodshed is carried.
The people? Good question! They are killed, massacred, tortured in the name of "humanitarian aid". Yes, you understood it correctly. As perverse as it may seems this is what happened to some countries and now in Syria.
I took the last paragraphs of this article from Global Researsh:
CONFIRMED: US CIA Arming Terrorists in Syria
by Tony Cartalucci
"Despite months of the US claiming the "international community" sought to end the violence and protect the population of Syria, the New York Times now admits that the US is engaged in supporting a "military campaign" against the Syrian government aimed at increasing "pressure" on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Efforts to impose an arms embargo on Syria is now revealed to be one-sided, aimed at giving rebels an advantage in the prolonged bloodbath with the intent on tipping the balance in favor of Western proxy-forces - not end the violence as soon as possible as claimed by the UN, and in particular, Kofi Annan.
The Times also reported that Turkey has been directly delivering weapons to terrorists operating in Syria - Turkey being a NATO member and implicating NATO as now being directly involved in perpetuating bloodshed in the Middle Eastern nation. For months, Turkey has been allowing terrorists to use its border region as a refuge from which to stage attacks against Syria.
Despite this, however, the so-called "Free Syrian Army," according to the New York Times, consists of only 100 or so small formations made up of "a handful of fighters to a couple of hundred combatants," betraying the narrative that the Syrian government faces a large popular uprising, and revealing that the "Free Syrian Army" is in fact a small collection of mercenaries, foreign fighters, and sectarian extremists, armed, funded, and directed by foreign interests solely to wreak havoc within Syria. It should be noted that these terrorist proxies were organized as early as 2007 by the US, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, specifically to enact regime change and transform Syria into a Western client regime.
As the West's propaganda campaign imploded after a torrent of unsubstantiated claims of "massacres" and "atrocities," all unverified, some in fact being revealed as the work of the West's sectarian proxies themselves, it appears that sidelining Syria in headlines while pursuing a clandestine proxy war is now the tactic of choice for the time being.
For the United States to claim Syria has "failed" to protect it population while simultaneously fueling the very armed conflict it claims it is seeking to end is not only hypocrisy of the highest order, but a crime against world peace - punishable under the Nuremberg precedent."

I hope it helps.

America: Political prisoners? How US government became the most dangerously ridiculous regime ever
In 2009 I met Lauren Weyland and wrote two posts about her. This is her place where she performs every Tuesday and where I go from time to time when there is nobody around.
It's a nice place and I remember Lauren's accent and her friends most of them Americans.
I took these pictures because I've been thinking about what is happening in America and I cannot help being deeply concerned. Patriot Act, NDAA and political prisoners.
"Political prisoners" is very familiar to me because I lived under dictatorship. I thought that I would never hear this label being used to put Americans in jail.
But it is and the people they are incarcerating under this label are everything but "political prisoners".
The existence of "Eco-defend prisoners" or "Eco-prisoners" is an aberration and it only shows how the US government has crossed all lines. Neither Kafka or Orwells could think of such a ridiculous reason to put people in jail: defending earth and it's inhabitants.
Visit Jericho Mouvement or Earth Liberation Prisoners Support Network (ELP) for more information.
Next June 11th is the international day of solidarity with long-term political prisoners. Spread the word.

What do you know about transgenders?
Calpernia Addams (Transgender Activist, Actress) gives expert video advice on: What is it like growing up transgender?; How did your friends and family react to you being transgender?; How did you change from male to female? and more...
Read the transcription if you don't want to listen, but please, try to inform yourself and understand. Some people know more about aliens than about human beings's complexity.
"How are transgender people treated in other cultures? Other cultures have dealt differently with transgender people than, sort of, modern America.
There are cultures such as India who have the Hijira, which are people in the culture who are usually born male but adopt a female identity. Sometimes they don't have medical intervention, sometimes they do. In Thailand there are the Kathoey, I hope I'm saying that right, which is how Thailand identifies transpeople. It's in some ways a lot more accepted than it is here, because there are Kathoey (ladyboys) who are pop stars and actors and actresses and stuff, but the culture places them in sort of a third sex category more so than accepting them as women." Assisted suicide: Exit and Dignitas x Dr Kevorkian
![]() |
| Jack Kevorkian |
Exit and Dignitas, two non-profit organizations, are making of euthanasia a commerce using strategies to promote their work that are similar to mainstream propaganda.
The millionaire Terry Pratchett received a VIP treatment and his suicide, assisted by Dignitas, was transmitted at BBC.
The criticism that followed was, of course, a backlash for the euthanasia and assisted suicide debates.
Exit and Dignitas sell many items and the drug they choose as the most efficacious is Nembutal, pentobarbital. They tell people to fly to Mexico because it is the only country where the drug can be bought.
There is a huge difference in advocating for the right to die and profiting from it. The two organizations are "non-profit".
The founder of Dignitas is said to have become a millionaire in ten years.
"A decade later, (after Dignitas clinic) the Beobachter investigation found, he had an annual taxable income of £98,000 and a personal fortune of over £1.2 million, wealth that includes a luxury villa."(...)
"But the cost of a simple suicide at Dignitas has risen from £1,800 in 2005 to £4,500, fuelling suspicions that the clinic may not be sticking to Swiss laws that are supposed to prevent people “selfishly” profiting from assisted suicide." The Telegraph.
"One nurse who assisted 30 deaths during her two and a half years at the clinic said she was so disturbed by its activities that she quit her job. The Daily Mail.
Dr. Kevorkian didn't ask for money. He dedicated his life in raising awareness about euthanasia and what he did:
"Kevorkian was imprisoned for eight years. As a condition of his parole in 2007, he promised not to assist in any more suicides.
He himself had appealed to leave prison early because of poor health, but said he did not consider himself a candidate for assisted suicide.
Kevorkian did not leave the public eye after his exit from prison, giving occasional lectures and in 2008 running for Congress unsuccessfully.
Born in the Detroit suburb of Pontiac, Kevorkian taught himself the flute and was a painter. Well read in philosophy and history, he cited Aristotle, Sir Thomas More and Pliny the Elder in his arguments for why people should have the right to die with dignity.
In a June 2010 interview with Reuters Television, the right-to-die activist said he was afraid of death as much as anyone else and said the world had a hypocritical attitude toward voluntary euthanasia, or assisted suicide.
"If we can aid people into coming into the world, why can't we aid them in exiting the world?" he said. (emphasis added)
Doctor-assisted suicide essentially became law in Oregon in 1997 and in Washington state in 2009. The practice of doctors writing prescriptions to help terminally ill patients kill themselves was ultimately upheld as legal by the U.S. Supreme Court. (Reuter's whole article here)."
He had integrity and he really cared about people and organizations like Dignitas and Exit care about money.
The discussion about euthanasia is far from over but people are committing suicide or searching for assisted suicide. Organizations like Exit and Dignitas are not helping to broad the discussion, on the contrary, they give more arguments for those who are against euthanasia.
Dignitas and Exit are making a scandal out of a serious problem.
The way things are now assisted suicide is for the few who are willing to go on a trip to Zwitzerland and can pay for everything Dignitas charge. The others? They can commit suicide after that's what has been happening for centuries. Not even the state or the Pope's approval is necessary.
Lawful of unlawful it's one person's choice.
In the US's states of Oregon, Montana and Washington, Belgium, and Netherlands where assisted suicide is legal, unlike Switzerland where it is not legal, the debate is still going on.
Dr. Kevorkian did not ask for money and charging to help someone to take a very cheap drug is unethical and quite undignified. Commercializing assisted suicide is outrageous.
Ludwig Minelli, Dignitas founder, is a lawyer. Ironic.

Susan Lindauer's books, speeches and work: arrested under Patriot Act
Susan Lindauer is a journalist, antiwar activist, author, former CIA Asset and 9/11 Whistle blower who believes the Senate Intelligence Committee should investigate the abuse of Assets– like herself– engaged in terrorism investigations, including the embezzlement of $13 million from the 9/11 investigation.
In 2005 she was arrested and charged with "acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government".
At this video she speaks about many issues. Go straight to 07:00 minutes when Susan starts to talk.
If you don't know about her, please, search her name and you'll find many links to her work : Minute 41:15:
"I was locked up in prison on a military base for a year. I was held under indictment for five years. The government was so threatened by what I was going to say that ... they wanted to forcibly drug me with Haldol, Ativan, and Prozac, which would have chemically lobotomized me. They could not identify anything wrong with me except that I argued that ... I had worked in antiterrorism for nine years and I warned about 9/11. They actually petitioned the court on the Patriot Act for the right to detain me up to 10 years in prison with no trial and no hearing. They wanted to lock me up and forcibly drug me at the same time."
Most people spend too much time listening to those who are in power when the attention must be focused on those who are fighting them.

Erin Brockovich: the bad employee
"I was working in the compressor.
The supervisor calls me up to the office and says:
"We'll give you a shredder...
...and send you to the warehouse to shred the documents we stored."
He say why?
Nope. And I didn't ask.
Did you look at the stuff you destroyed?
It was a lot of dull vacation schedules and stuff.
Then there were memos about the holding ponds, the water in them.
And readings from the test wells, stuff like that.
"You were told to destroy those?
That's right.
Course, as it turns out...
...l wasn't a very good employee."
This is Charles Embry the employee that provided the incriminating documents that was used as proof that PG&E had previous knowledge that the water was contaminated.
The corporation payed $333 million settlement to the victims, the largest direct action lawsuit in U.S. history.
Let's not forget that the woman who gathered all the information was not a lawyer.
Erin Brokovich, the movie is based on a true story, keeps working and surely needs some bad employees because her cases are not welcome by corporations who pay a lot of money to put her work in discredit.

Disease Awareness Campaign: do they really target your health?
From time to time there are campaigns about a certain disease and there is a bombardment of information usually emphasizing that the number of people that are not diagnosed is very high.
Do these campaigns care about people's health?
Everything is done in such a way that "yes" has to be the answer. There are charitable organizations, patients, family members and many smiling faces making it all so beautiful and clear. Take a moment to inform yourself about your health or the health of your family members.
This is what the 2005 review of the English Parliament "The Influence of Pharmaceutical Industry" reports:
74. Education for patients is provided in a variety of ways, including disease awareness campaigns, which are discussed in detail in Part 8.
Such campaigns are designed to increase awareness among the general public of particular conditions that may be under-reported or under-diagnosed and to encourage people to seek treatment. Often, such campaigns are sponsored by a drug company and may bear a company’s logo; they may be also endorsed by a charity or patient organisation and/or supported by a celebrity. p 25 (emphasis added)
248. Witnesses argued that the use of disease awareness campaigns, which in the past have involved conditions including depression, anxiety and obesity, play a major part in the “medicalisation” of our society; in short:, “where disease awareness campaigns end and disease mongering begin is a very indistinct line”.208
Dr Des Spence, representing the group ‘No Free Lunch’, asserted that the bombardment of the general public and patients served,
“to undermine our collective sense of well being”.209
[That campaign] led to us being told that a third of people were depressed, that we should screen for it, that we should start using antidepressants early, and we did. If I think back five or ten years ago, we were diagnosing large numbers of people with depression, and we were prescribing many antidepressants. As time has gone on, I have certainly begun to realise that in some ways yes, there are many people who do have depression, but lots of people are just unhappy and that is a part of life. So there is a whole generation of people coming up who almost feel that being unhappy is an abnormal state, which, of course, it is not. 210 p. 70* (emphasis added)
250. According to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB), disease awareness campaigns may hide potentially adverse consequences. Those seeking screening, diagnosis or treatment might, for instance, receive a false-positive result that leads to the individual undergoing an unnecessary procedure.
The guidelines state that the risks associated with treatment and the fact that treatments are not always suitable or effective for every individual should be made clear but, we are told, the industry does not always adhere to these recommendations. p. 70 (emphasis added)
251. No witness suggested that all disease awareness campaigns were cynical attempts to increase drug sales, but many doubted that they were simply aimed at improving the lives of those with unmet medical needs. It is not acceptable for such campaigns to be veiled advertising for branded prescription-only medicines. p 70 (emphasis added)
* There are more data about the Depression Awareness Campaign and you can read it at the review "The Influence of Pharmaceutical Industry". I think that everybody should take a look at this review since health is an issue that affects each one of us.
Information about how medicine is being practiced is very important because in a pill there is not only relief as we often are inclined to believe. Medicines are sold at "drugstores" and many are at the market causing more harm than benefits.
There is another great book available online in .pdf by the criminologist John Braithwaite "Corporate Crime in the Pharmaceutical Industry".
Or you can read at this link and embed it at you site if you want.
Braithwaite John - Corporate Crime in the Pharmaceutical Industry
There is a review about this book at EnCognitive and other articles, not very long, that can help you understand what is happening. Remember: It's about your health, your body, mind and soul.
In the corporation era we have to be alert whenever they are around because the cost can be very high.
Inform yourself, search.

Eadweard Muybridge and the integrity in science

Today Google's doodle is about Eadweard Muybridge's 1892 experiment for the former governor of California Leland Stanford a businessman and race-horse owner.
Muybridge, an English photographer who lived in America, received $25,000 to perform an experiment to prove that a horse has all his hoovers off the floor for a very brief moment when trotting.
It was a subject of controversy in horse-racing circles.
It was necessary to capture the images slowly because human eyes cannot see where the legs are.
Muybridge took numerous pictures in the experiment called The Horse in Motion.
This experiment was used by some artists later like Marcel Duchamp.
I want to stress this aspect of the whole story: Wikipedia:
"Muybridge and Stanford had a major falling-out concerning his research on equine locomotion. Stanford asked his friend and horseman Dr. J. B. D. Stillman to write a book analyzing The Horse in Motion, which was published in 1882.[15] Stillman used Muybridge's photos as the basis for his 100 illustrations and the photographer's research for the analysis, but he gave Muybridge no prominent credit. The historian Phillip Prodger suggested that Stanford considered Muybridge as just one of his employees and not deserving of special credit.[16] As a result of Muybridge not being credited in the book, the Royal Society withdrew an offer to fund his stop-motion studies in photography. Muybridge filed a lawsuit against Stanford to gain credit, but it was dismissed out of court."
This is the way scientists have been working. They receive money from corporations and their work is driven according to the corporations needs.
Scientists research what the corporations tell them to research and the results of their work that is published defend what the corporations need usually with no consideration to those who will use the products. The aim is profit.
This is the way science is being done and this is why there are scientists fighting for integrity in science.
Leland Stanford was the founder of the Stanford University. He considered Muybridge as one of his employees.
