Finally! Maria Sharapova has come a long way and has won her first title since her shoulder injury. Her final opponent was also another former world no. 1, Jelena Jankovic. Both players have played really well from the beginning of the tournament and at the final, unseeded Russian Sharapova was leading 5-2 when Jankovic pulled out with a right wrist injury. Serbian Jankovic claimed the opening two games, but Sharapova stormed back to claim the next five before the seventh seed signaled she could not continue.

Although Maria Sharapova would seems to want to play on, she was also definitely happy that she had landed herself with the title after all. The fans should all be really happy for her and Maria Sharapova definitely have shown that she has the skills to win the tournament. Would this most glamorous tennis player, once former world no. 1, tennis great be able to bounce back again to her title as world no. 1 again?

Many will be waiting to see that and continue to see her climb in rankings. At the moment now both Maria Sharapova and Javanovic can have a good rest first. For Maria Sharapova, she can smile and rest with her new trophy after so many months of not winning anything.

Maria has made it to another semi-finals and she has come a long way to maintain such performance despite the fact many of the big stars has already been out of the game. She won Samantha Stosur the former Tokyo champion and has climbed to the ranking of World 25th from over 100th position.

The World former no. 1 seems to be getting back and she breezed past Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic to keep on course for a potential final showdown against Jelena Jankovic who is the other star that has continue to maintain her placing in this tennis tournament.

As the match continues it is only going to be more exciting and Maria Sharapova probably have a good shot to win at this Pan-Pacific Open Tokyo tournament.
