LANGKAWI, May 11 (Bernama) -- National elite sailor Khairul Nizam Mohd Afendy has qualified to represent the country at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) vice-president Datuk Mansor Ismail said the selection of the young sailor was based on his excellent performance at the ongoing Laser Standard - World Championship 2012 in Boltenhagen, Germany.
"His success has inspired the MYA to continue promoting sailing in the country," he told Bernama here today.
Mansor said the last time Malaysia participated in the Olympic Games was four years ago in China through Kevin Lim who, however, failed to deliver any medal.
Khairul Nizam will be undergoing training in Croatia next month in his preparation for the Olympic Games.
