Another Dry Day At Aquatics Centre

LONDON, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- It was another sad day for the Malaysian contingent on Day Five of the 2012 Olympics that started on Saturday after Bryan Nickson Lomas and Huang Qiang failed to deliver a medal in the Men's Synchronised 3m Spring Board final.

As the only Malaysians competing in a final Wednesday and the event a medal prospect for Malaysia, it was really a dissapointing outing for the Malaysian duo who finished in last spot out of the eight participating countries.

Bryan and Huang collected 405.09 points.

Chinese divers Qin Lai and Luo Yutong grabbed the gold with 477.00 points, Russians Ilya Zakharoz and Evgeny Kuznetsov won the silver (459.63) while Kristian Ipsen/ Troy Dumais of USA took the bronze (446.76).

Both of them now will concentrate in the Men's 10m Platform event which will start on Aug 10.

However, there was some light at the end of the tunnel for the Malaysian camp as world number two men's singles Datuk Lee Chong Wei is back to his normal game when he easily beat Simon Santoso of Indonesia in the last elimination round.

The top seed of the Games will square off with Kasyap Parupali of India in the quarterfinals.

Parupali beat neighbour Niluka Karunaratne of Sri Lanka in a three setter, 21-14, 15-21, 21-9, to book his date with Chong Wei.

Thursday, Day Six of the Games, the highlights will be at the Wembley Arena where Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong will start their quarterfinal challenge against Isara Bodin/Jongit Maneepong of Thailand while Chong Wei takes on Parupali.

At the Aquatics Centre, national swimmer Khoo Cai Lin will try to make a golden spalsh in the Women's 800m Freestyle heat.
