LONDON, 1 Aug (Bernama) -- World number eight Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Hong were tamed 16-21, 11-21 by world number one men's doubles, Chung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae of South Korea in the final Group D match of the 2012 Olympics.
The Malaysians however were lucky to be in second spot of Group D and booked a place in the quarterfinals this Thursday.
They will battle Group B leaders Isara Bodin/Jongit Maneepong of Thailand. Had they won Tuesday's match, Koo and Tan would have to face more tougher opponents, Mohammad Ahsan/ Bona Septano from Indonesia who emerged as Group B runners-up.
In the match held at Wembley Arena here Tuesday night, the Malaysians appeared to lack fighting spirit although their head-to-head record shows a huge gap between the two doubles.
The record stands at 12:2, in favour of the South Koreans. In their last meeting during the 2011 Super Series final, the South Koreans were stretched to rubber set before taming the Malaysians.
