SWIMMERS Kevin Yeap and Christina Loh could be making their Olympic debut in London after meeting the invitational time standards at last weekend's Singapore National Age-Group Championships.
They, however, will still need to better their qualifying times before the June deadline to guarantee their spots for London.Kevin posted a personal best of 15:40.54 seconds to settle for silver behind India's Sangvekar Saurabh (15:34.67) in the men's 1,500m freestyle. The Olympic invitational time is 15:43.74.
Kevin, 22, then won the 400m freestyle in 3:55.32, just outside the invitational time of 3:54.13.
Christina, 17, managed a personal best of 1:10.59 when second in the 100m breaststroke behind Japan's Aoki Reona (1:09.97). Both dipped under the invitational time of 1:10.89.
Christina also consolidated her status as the region's fastest swimmer in the 50m breaststroke by setting a national record of 32.19 to win the event in her age-group.
The national swimmers were not targeted to peak in the Singapore meet but nonetheless, returned with a haul of 11 gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
Gold medallists -- Boys' 18 and over: Kevin Yeap (1500m freestyle); Yap See Tuan (100m and 200m breaststroke); 15-17: Vernon Lee (400m freestyle).
Girls' 18 and over: Siow Yi Ting (50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke); Khoo Cai Lin (200m, 400m and 800m freestyle); 15-17: Christina Loh (50m breaststroke).
