Chong Wei Must Ensure Shoulder Injury Won't Disrupt His Olympic Plan - Shabery

KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek hopes Datuk Lee Chong Wei's shoulder injury would heal before the London Olympics in August.

"However, if the injury is serious, Chong Wei must forget about playing in the Thomas Cup final in Wuhan, China, scheduled from May 20-27, to concentrate on his full recovery for the Olympics," he told reporters after chairing a SUKMA Supreme Council meeting here Monday.

Ahmad Shabery said Chong Wei must realise his commitment towards the nation's aspiration of winning the country's first ever gold medal in the London Olympics.

Chong Wei who was bidding for his third consecutive All England men's singles title when facing arch rival Lin Dan of China in the final at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England Sunday, had to retire in the second set due to the shoulder injury.

The Malaysian world number one who had come into the match with a heavily strapped shoulder, lost the first set 19-21 and was trailing the second set 2-6 when he decided to quit.
