London Olympics 2012 enjoy opening ceremony full coverage

One of the most telling images in the past 30 years of sports television was the moment at the Opening Ceremony of the 1996 Olympic Games when Muhammad Ali, shaking from the growing effects of Parkinson's disease, courageously lifted the torch and sent a flame up to the Olympic cauldron.
It marked the start of the Atlanta Games and the reaction around the world to his brave performance matched anything he had enjoyed in his fighting prime. That show of affection may well be repeated tonight.
I watched the 1996 Opening Ceremony in the stadium, in a hospitality box converted into a mobile studio by the BBC. As always the Corporation's steadfast support for the Olympic movement had been rewarded with a prime location for presenter Desmond Lynam and that evening's studio guests.
