Where can you find Pan Am Stewardesses, a Dowager Countess, an Evil Queen, and Marylin Monroe-inspired "NBC's Smash" gold gown? Oh yes, in Downtown LA of course! Well, fashionistas and costume design aficionados, Tuesday was the Opening Day of the 6th Annual Outstanding Art Television Costume Design Exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising/FIDM, my alma mater, and college of which I am the Official Fashion Spokesperson.

The exhibition, presented by FIDM Museum and Galleries and Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, was Guest Curated by Mary Rose, Costume Designer and President of the Costume Designers Guild. It features over 75 (!) costumes from a variety of TV shows (sixteen of them), period and contemporary, including seven nominated for an Emmy® for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design. This past weekend, a VIP reception/party was held at the FIDM Campus to "unveil" this fabulous new exhibition. Guests included:

(Left to right) Eduardo Castro, Costume Designer for ABC's "Once Upon A Time" (he was also the Costume Designer for ABC's "Ugly Betty"!) and Julie Weiss (love her oversized paillette tunic-dress!) Costume Designer for many films including "American Beauty" "Frida" "The Ring" and (my personal favorite) "Blades of Glory" (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

(Left to right) Chrisi Karvonides, Costume Designer nominated for FX's "American Horror Story", seen here with Mary Rose, President of the Costume Designers Guild and Guest Curator of the 6th Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design Exhibition (photo courtesy of Alex J. Now, let's get to the costumes at the exhibition. Like I said at the top of this post, there are over 75 costumes featured and some of the highlights include:

English Class: The Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design Costumes from PBS' "Downton Abbey": Yes, that's Maggie Smith's "Dowager Countess" silk velvet and sequin ensemble on the far left--PS: She's Tall! (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

Costumes from NBC's "Smash" --The gold sequin gown is worn by Katharine McPhee's character and the one on the far right is worn by actress Anjelica Huston (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

The Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design costumes from HBO's "Game of Thrones"--And yes, that's the costume worn by actor Peter Dinklage above (top photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

The Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design costumes from ABC's "Once Upon a Time"--This tableau at FIDM Museum is HUGE--above photo is the "Rainbow Fairy" costume from the ABC show (photos courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

The Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design costumes from HBO's "Hemingway and Gellhorn"--Nicole Kidman starred in this and I have a fun fact from the costume designer, Ruth Myers: Kidman's inseam is 34". That's the inseam of well, a 6' 2" man ! (she's got fabulously LONG legs) (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

Nick Verreos and KTLA-TV's Gayle Anderson, 6th Annual Outstanding Art of Costume Design Costume Design Exhibition, FIDM Museum

On Monday, I had the pleasure of filming some Morning TV segments for KTLA-TV Channel 5 LIVE direct from the FIDM Museum and the brand new exhibition with the always fantastic (and my TV Production Segment MUSE!) Gayle Anderson. We had such a blast filming these segments. Miss Gayle is my "sister from another mister" darlings! LOVE her. As a special VIP treat, two of the Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design costume designers from this past year--Ruth Myers ("Hemingway and Gellhorn") and Chrisi Karvonides ("American Horror Story")--were there for some of the KTLA-TV Morning Show interviews at FIDM Museum so I had the honor of meeting them and of course, getting some behind-the-scenes costume design DISH.

Costume Designer Ruth Myers and Nick Verreos, FIDM Museum

Nick Verreos and Costume Designer Chrisi Karvonides: I had such a ball chatting with Chrisi---she also designed the costumes for ABC's "Pan Am" series pilot so she gave me such great behind-the-scenes dish on the Pan Am stewardess uniforms (you know I LOVE me some Stewardess Uniforms!!).

Coffee, Tea...or Fab Uniforms: ABC's "Pan Am" TV show stewardess uniforms

Stewardess Dish: Costume Designer Chrisi Karvonides and Nick Verreos, 6th Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design Exhibition, FIDM Museum

As you can see from the photo above, Costume Designer Chrisi Karvonides and I were in some SERIOUS "Wait, how many pattern pieces to that Pan Am pill box hat? And the Pan Am logo was actually GOLD!!??" conversation. LOVED every minute of it!

You can click HERE to see the segments I did with Gayle and KTLA-TV!! (scroll on the videos to find all the FIDM Costume Design Exhibition segments).

ISN Beri Perhatian Alasan Naif Atlet Bila Tewas

ISN To Study Excuses Given By Athletes After Losing At The Olympics

LONDON, July 31 (Bernama) -- The National Sports Institute (ISN) will study all feedback received from Malaysian athletes who took part in the Olympics, here, especially those related to lack of mental strength.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz admitted that excuses such as nervousness and panic were syndromes of lack of mental strength.

"As professional athletes competing at the highest level, such lame excuses are unacceptable.

"Even if it was their first time at the Olympics, there should not be any excuse because prior to the competition in London, they had taken part in many international competitions championships abroad and faced the same opponents," he told Bernama, here, Tuesday.

He said this when asked to comment on the often-heard excuse from Malaysian athletes when they lost their respective events, claiming the loud cheers of fans made them nervous, revealing their lack of mental strength, especially when competing against higher ranked opponents.

Dr Ramlan said such excuses citing outside interference cannot be accepted because ISN with the cooperation of the National Sports Council (NSC) had carried out simulation tests for national athletes numerous times before going to the Olympics.

"ISN and the NSC had conducted simulation tests at Bukit Jalil with numerous disturbances, when the athletes performed, to give an idea of what to expect at the Olympics," he said.

He said all excuses given by the athletes at the Olympics, especially those involving ISN sports expertise, will be given attention and overcome for the benefit of future competitions.

Gold Remains Elusive On Day Four Of 2012 Olympics

LONDON, 1 Aug (Bernama) -- The gold medal in an Olympic Games remained elusive for Malaysian contingent on the fourth day of the world biggest sporting event as the divers failed to deliver the much awaited medal in the Women's Synchronised 10 metre Platform final.

The Malaysian camp however were relieved when archer Khairul Anuar Mohamad booked a place in the third round elimination of the Men's Individual event on Thursday.

Meanwhile, national shuttlers Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong nearly missed the quarter-finals slot, losing to the world number one duo from South Korea but managed to set a date with a Thai pair this Thursday.

At the London Aquatics Centre, divers Pandelela Rinong anak Pamg and Leong Mun Yee managed only the seventh out of eight participating countries.

They collected a total of 308.52 points in the five discipline event.

Chinese divers Chen Roulin and Wang Hao won the gold with 368.40 points, Mexica's Alejandra Crozco Loza and Paola Espinosa Sanchez grabbed the silver (343.32) while Roseline Filion/Meaghan Benfeito of Canada took the bronze (337.62).

At the Lord's Cricket Ground, Khairul Anuar beat his more illustrious compatriot Cheng Chu Sian before edging a higher ranked Chinese archer to book a slot in the third round of men's Individual Recurve event.

Khairul Anuar collected 140 points while Chu Sian 137 in the first elimination round for 6-4 winning result and later maintained his superb form to beat Xing Yu of China 6-5 in the second elimination round.

The Malaysian will next face Larry Godfrey of Great Britain in the third round elimination on Friday.

At the Wembley Arena, world number eight Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Hong lost in their final group match but still made it to the quarterfinals after finishing as runners-up in Group D.

The Malaysians were tamed 16-21, 11-21 by world number one men's doubles, Chung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae and will face Group B leaders, Isara Bodin/Jongit Maneepong of Thailand in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Wednesday, day five of the 30th Olympics that started on Saturday, Datuk Lee Chong Wei will battle against Simon Santoso of Indonesia in the quarter-finals of the men's singles.

At the Aquatics Centre, divers Bryan Nickson Lomas and Huang Qiang will be in the final of the men's synchronized 3m springboard final while national sailor Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy will sail in race 5 & R of the Men's Dinghy event.

Koo/Tan Lose But Still Make Quarter-finals

LONDON, 1 Aug (Bernama) -- World number eight Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Hong were tamed 16-21, 11-21 by world number one men's doubles, Chung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae of South Korea in the final Group D match of the 2012 Olympics.

The Malaysians however were lucky to be in second spot of Group D and booked a place in the quarterfinals this Thursday.

They will battle Group B leaders Isara Bodin/Jongit Maneepong of Thailand. Had they won Tuesday's match, Koo and Tan would have to face more tougher opponents, Mohammad Ahsan/ Bona Septano from Indonesia who emerged as Group B runners-up.

In the match held at Wembley Arena here Tuesday night, the Malaysians appeared to lack fighting spirit although their head-to-head record shows a huge gap between the two doubles.

The record stands at 12:2, in favour of the South Koreans. In their last meeting during the 2011 Super Series final, the South Koreans were stretched to rubber set before taming the Malaysians.

- UTUSAN

Thais next for Koo-Tan

KOO Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong will play Thai darkhorses Bodin Isara-Maneepong Jongjit after they fell 21-16, 21-11 to South Korea's Chung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae in their final London
Olympics Group D match at the London Arena on Tuesday.

That stretched their head-to-head to 13-2 in favour of the Koreans but one has to think this was a calculated gamble by the Malaysians.

Had they won to top the group, Kien Keat-Boon Heong would have to play Indonesians Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano in Thursday's quarter-finals. Although their head-to-head is only 3-2 in favour of the Indonesians, the Malaysians recent record probably part a major role in the strategising of the national camp.

Koo Kien Keat (front) and Tan Boon Heong
The Malaysian camp, however, insisted they played to win.

"The players tried but the Koreans were at the top of their game today," said doubles coach Tan Kim Her. "We tried different strategies but Chung-Lee managed to counter all of them."

Kien Keat-Boon Heong, who had been impressive in their first two group games, just couldn't cope with the power play of the Koreans.

"We had an off day but I believe if we were to meet them again, it will be a different performance from us," said Kien Keat.

That can only happen if both pairs advance to the final, which several others are eyeing, and what matters for the moment is the challenge of the Thais.

"We have to analyse their games and devise the right strategy. We have only played them once - in the 2009 Sea Games - which we won but they have, obviously, improved," said Boon Heong.

For Kien Keat-Boon Heong, they are at the same stage they were four years ago in the Beijing Games and destiny is now in their hands.

Koo/Tan Mara Ke Suku Akhir Walaupun Tumpas Kepada Beregu Korea Selatan

Jeremy says winless Peng Soon-Liu Ying must be more analytical

NATIONAL mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying did not bow out of the Olympic Games badminton competition empty-handed – they learned their lessons from the three defeats in the group matches.

Coach Jeremy Gan said yesterday that “the players let their expectations go to their head and forget their strategy”.

“This is what happens when you lose your focus. They should have played their normal game and stick to game plan. Instead, you could see that they allowed the pressure to get to them and then made it harder by wanting to win at all cost,” he said.

“It is good to have a winning mentality but, in a pressure-cooker situation like the Olympics, you must analyse the situation and do things a little differently.”

Peng Soon-Liu Ying lost their opening match 12-21, 21-6, 15-21 to Taiwan’s Chen Hing Lin-Cheng Wen Hsing before going down meekly to China’s Xu Chen-Ma Jin 14-21, 8-21.
Yesterday the Malaysians lost 16-21, 15-21 to Thailand’s Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying are ranked seventh in the world but the other pairs are all ranked higher.
“Peng Soon-Liu Ying have played against these pair before and could beat them. Like I said, they need to be prepared for a higher level of competition. The game at this level is always very different from the GP series,” said Jeremy.

So, what now for the pair?

Jeremy believes it’s time for them to go back to basics.

“Yes we must look back and start all over again. I want the two players to realise how they got here. What did they do to qualify?,” he said.

“If you don’t learn from the past, you cannot move forward. Every step you take is a learning process. I hope they realise the mistakes they have made and try harder at a top-level tournament next time.
“This has been a good experience for them.”

Pandelela-Mun Yee finish in seventh place

MALAYSIA’S Pandelela Rinong and Leong Mun Yee finished in seventh place in the 10m synchronised platform diving event at the Aquatic Centre.

The duo scored a total of 308.52 points, which was well below their best. There were hopes that the duo would deliver the medals yesterday but the pressure got to them.
Both agreed that it was below par performance.

“We just could not do it right and the dives from third to fifth was very bad. We were just too tensed and that affected the performance,” said Pandelela.

Mun Yee also agreed that the dives from the third round onwards were disastrous.
“I cannot pin it down to any one thing but I am totally not satisfied with the dives. There was high expectations which is quite normal. We could have done better,” she said.

Chen Ruolin and Wang Hao claimed China’s third gold medal in as many diving events. They scored a total of 368.40 points.

Mexico’s Alejandra Orozco Loza and Paolo Espinosa Sanchez claimed silver while Canadian duo Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion took the bronze.
The Mexican divers had a total of 343.32 while the Canadians 337.62.

For the Mexicans it as a double in the diving pool. Their men’s synchronised 10m platform team also bagged the silver a day earlier.

For the Canadians it was also their second diving medal after winning the bronze in the women’s 3m synchronised springboard event. They also had a bronze in the judo competition.

The Malaysians have one more synchronised event which is the men’s 3m synchronised springboard with Bryan Nickson Lomas and Huang Qiang in the fray.

For Mun Yee her Olympics is over while Pandelela still has the individual event to compete in.
That will be the 10m platform on Aug 8.

“I will prepare for that and make sure I am in the right frame of mind for it. I will not set any target but ensure that my focus is on doing well. There are a lot of good divers out there and it will not be easy. All I can promise is to make up for this disappointment and try and do better,” she said.

Malaysian Women Divers Fail To Deliver Much Awaited Medal

LONDON, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's hopes of grabbing the first medal from the 2012 Olympics were dashed as mistakes by Pandelela Rinong and Leong Mun Yee, starting in the third round, caused them to finish in seventh spot in Women's Synchronised 10 metre Platform final.

In the event held at the London Aquatics Centre here Tuesday, Pandelela and Mun Yee collected a total of 308.52 points to finish in the second last spot of spot out of eight participating countries.

In the first dicipline, the reverse dive, the Malaysian duo collected 52.80 points, back dive (54.00), forward 3 1/2 sommersault (70.20), inward 3 1/2 sommersault (60.48) and back 2 1/2 sommersault (71.04).

After securing third overall position in the second dicipline, the Malaysian duo seemed to lose concentration in the third dicipline which saw their rank drop to number five and finally they clinched the seven spot after the final dive event.

Pandelela when met after the competition admitted Tuesday's performance was not their best as they were under a lot of pressure.

"We start making mistakes in the third dicipline and continued (to make mistakes) in the fourth and fifth (dives). After the third dicipline, we just continued what we had to do but it was too late to better our position," she said.

Mun Yee also admitted that after securing the third overall position in the second dicipline, they were under immense pressure to better it to ensure a medal.

"Its not that were not synchronised in our diving.

But the pressure, high expectations, seemed eat ourselves," she said.

Malaysia's national diving coach from China, Yang Zhuliang said it was not his charges best performance Tuesday.

"Too much pressure especially on Pandelela.

Maybe the higher expectation on her because she also will be taking part in the women's individual synchronised 10m platform on Friday," he said.

Heavy price for poor entries

ANDELELA Rinong-Leong Mun Yee failed to produce their best when it mattered most as they finished seventh in the 10m platform synchro at the Aquatics Centre yesterday.

.
Pandelela Rinong (left) and Leong Mun Yee finished seventh in the 10m platform synchro yesterday.

The duo were among those expected to end Malaysia's over-dependence on badminton for medals at the Olympics but three poor dives, which came after they had moved into third place, proved very costly against a top quality field.

Both made mistakes and as coach Yang Zheliang had said, this had to be avoided but unfortunately, Pandelela-Mun Yee failed to heed his warning.

"The turning points were the third and fifth dives which cost us as we failed to execute our routines as well as we know we can. We are both very sad that we failed to do well," said Pandelela.
Mun Yee said both made individual mistakes in their dives.

"We could and should have scored higher in the third, fourth and fifth dives but I suppose we were nervous," said Mun Yee, whose fourth and final appearance at the Olympics didn't end the way she wanted -- with a medal.

They started well enough, scoring 52.80 with their first dive, which left them in fifth spot but within touching distance of even the awesome China pair Chen Ruolin-Wang Hao, who opened with a 53.40.
The second dive saw Pandelela-Mun Yee scoring 54.00, which moved them up to third in the field of eight pairs and sent hopes soaring as the feeling was that they could only get better.

That, however, proved to be a mere assumption -- as far as the Malaysians were concerned that is - for as other pairs got stronger, Pandelela-Mun Yee's form deserted them.

The third dive saw Pandelela failing to straighten her legs before making entry into the water and the judges were unforgiving, giving them a mere 70.20 which saw them drop back to fifth.

There was still hope though for Malaysia as they were just 4.8 points away from the bronze medal position but, yet again, they failed to produce with their fourth dive and scored only 60.48 to drop to seventh.

Pandelela-Mun Yee needed a huge fifth dive to perhaps steal into the bronze medal position but didn't deliver, scoring 71.04 as Canadians Roseline Filion-Meahgan Benfeito snatched the bronze away from Australia with a final score of 337.62.

China's Chen Ruolin-Wang Hao scored a total 368.40 for the gold while Mexico's Alejandra Orozco Loza-Paola Espinosa Sanchez (343.32) took the silver. Malaysia's total was 308.52.
Malaysia's medal hopes, though, are not dashed as Bryan Nickson Lomas-Huang Qiang will be in action in the 10m platform synchro today.

DTN News - LONDON OLYMPICS 2012: Men's Individual Foil Fencing - China's Lei Sheng Takes The Gold Medal

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - July 31, 2012: Lei Sheng celebrates winning the men's Foil Individual gold medal bout against Alaaeldin Abouelkassem of Egypt on Day 4 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at ExCeL.

Egyptian Alaaeldin Abouelkassem, 21, had to settle for silver and not the gold he was really looking for - and looked like he might grab.

That went to China's world number nine Lei, who came from 13-12 down to win 15-13 after a day of shock results which included Britain's medal hope Richard Kruse heavily losing his first contest.

Bronze went to Republic of Korea's Choi Byungchul with a nail-biting 15-14 victory over Andrea Baldini, the 26-year-old Italian.

Pingat terus hampa

- UTUSAN

Dive too far for Malaysians

THERE was no Olympic cheer for Malaysia at the Aquatics Centre as Pandelela Rinong-Leong Mun Yee failed to live up to the hype in the women's 10m platform synchro final on Tuesday.

They succumbed to nerves, which is a common problem with Malaysian athletes, to finish seventh despite being in bronze medal position at one stage.

Pandelela Rinong-Leong Mun Yee finished seventh in the 10m platform synchro.
"We failed to perform and we are both hugely disappointed," said Pandelela, who had won the 2009 World Championships bronze with Mun Yee in the same event.

Mistakes littered their dives - especially the third to fifth attempts - and there was to be no coming back as the other divers were more consistent.

China's Chen Ruolin-Wang Hao were runaway winners, scoring a total 368.40 for the gold while Mexico's Alejandra Orozco Loza-Paola Espinosa Sanchez (343.32) took the silver. Bronze went to Canadians Roseline Filion-Meahgan Benfeito who scored 337.62.

Penerjun Wanita Gagal Sumbang Pingat Yang Diharapkan Malaysia

Khairul ceria, Chu Sian duka

Archer Khairul qualifies for third round of men’s individual event

FINALLY, there was some good news for the Malaysian archery team at the Lord’s Cricket Ground when Khairul Anuar Mohd qualified for the third round of the men’s individual event.
World No. 5 Khairul began the knockout stage with the 6-4 win over compatriot Cheng Chu Sian.
Then, in the second round, he edged China’s Xing Yu 6-5.

Khairul will now enjoy a two-day break before the final rounds are held on Friday.
The Malaysian archer was happy with his form and felt that “I could have gone on to win the third round as well if it had been held today (yesterday)”.
“I was shooting quite well and confidently. It was close in both matches but I was in control and that gave me a lot of confidence,” said Khairul.

“It’s a pity that Chu Sian had to come up against me in the first round. He could have done well if he had not faced me. I will use the two-day break to get myself ready for the last eight round. At least we are still in the fight to make the medal rounds.
“I will remain calm and stay focused on the task at hand.”

He will definitely have to stay calm in the next round as he will not only be shooting against home favourite Larry Godfrey but he will also be up against the partisan crowd.

“Yes, I know what to expect. But I will try my best to get past him – and the crowd. There are no easy matches at this level and one mistake can be the difference between winning and losing. I know that and that is why consistency is crucial to my chances,” said Khairul.

Khairul Anuar wakil tunggal negara

- UTUSAN

Khairul Anuar Mara Ke Pusingan Ketiga

Kedua-dua pemain terpaksa melakukan panahan penentuan setelah terikat 2-2 selepas lima set.

Katanya selepas memenangi pusingan pertama, keyakinannnya bertambah.

Khairul in 44th spot after two races

Malaysia’s Khairulnizam Efendy is in 44th place out of 49 sailors after the first two races in the men’s Laser event.

Khairul said after while the weather was good “the unpredictable wind condition made the race hard too handle”.

“I also made some mistakes along the way. This is my first race at this level and it is certainly a bit unnerving. But I hope to improve as my target is to get into the top 30 here,” he said.
Britain’s Tom Slings leads the race, followed by Juan Ignacio of Guatemala and Croatia’s Toncistipanovic.

The sailors have two more races to go.

Shivers fail to derail Khairul

BOTH suffered a case of the shivers ahead of their all-Malaysian showdown at Lord's cricket ground but Khairul Anuar Mohamad turned out to be the cooler of the two as he beat Cheng Chu Sian in the first round of the London Olympics men's individual on Tuesday.

That was soon followed by the scalp of China's Xing Yu, which meant a last-16 clash with Britain's Larry Godfrey on Friday.

"It was very tough, having to compete against your teammate. We are all very close and could not believe the draw when it came out," said Khairul, 21.

Khairul Anuar Mohamad meets Britain's Larry Godfrey on Friday.
Khairul and Chu Siang's tie was a real nerve-wrecker with both taking turns to lead before the former sealed his second round berth with a 6-4 (29-26, 27-28, 25-27, 29-27, 30-29) triumph.

"I had to forget who was my opponent as both of us were determined to give Malaysia something to cheer for after the team event (where they were eliminated in the first round)."

Khairul's match against Xing Yu was also filled with tension as they were tied 5-5 (28-30, 29-29, 28-27, 28-7, 26-28) on points, which meant a one-arrow shoot off.

Khairul was spot on, as his arrow landed closest to the bullseye and ensured there would be Malaysian involvement in Friday's deciding day.

It is now up to Khairul to determine just how serious that involvement will be.

Khairul Anuar Beats Compatriot En Route To Earning Third Round Slot

LONDON, July 31 (Bernama) -- Young national archer Khairul Anuar Mohamad beat his more illustrious compatriot Cheng Chu Sian before edging a higher ranked Chinese archer to book a slot in the third round of the London Olympics men's Individual Recurve event here Tuesday.

In the event held at the Lord's Cricket Ground, Khairul Anuar collected 140 points while Chu Sian 137 in the first elimination round for 6-4 winning result and later maintained his superb form to beat Xing Yu of China 6-5 in a second elimination round shoot-off.

Both archers were forced into a shoot-off when they were tied 2-2 after five ends.

In the shoot-off, both hit the nine points mark but since the Malaysian's arrow was nearer to the 10-point line compared with the Chinese archer's arrow, Khairul was declared the winner.

The Malaysian will next face Larry Godfrey of Great Britain in the third round elimination on Friday.

Under the International Archery Federation's (FITA) new rules, winner of the competition is not only decided on how many arrows they shoot and score but the winner of each five ends will get an additional two points.

Khairul said in the match against Chu Sian, although he respected his senior, in such a high level of competition like the Olympics, only the best will prevail.

"Both of us train together and we know each other's performance well. But I guess I was more composed today," he told reporters after the competition. After winning the first round, I was more confident with myself. Though the Chinese is at world no 13 and I'm 20, I knew I could beat him," said Khairul.

On his third round elimination match against Briton's Godfrey, Khairul said he would need to be more focused as the archer from the host country would have a lot of support from the crowd.

Chief-de-Mission Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid who was at the venue said Khairul had a competitive edge today and looked more composed compared with the men's team event.

"But he must be very focused and not distracted by the vocal support from local supporters, especially so since he will be facing a local archer on Friday," he said.

Next London Olympics 2012 : Australian Magnussen Finds Form

(PRWEB) July 31, 2012
James Magnussen went some way to exorcising the failure of Australia's Freestyle Relay team to get an Olympic medal as he produced a solid 100m heat performance.
The world 100m Freestyle champion, known as 'the Missile', is a hot favourite to add the Olympic title to the world gold he secured last year in Shanghai and has clocked 47.10 already this year.
He qualified fourth overall in 48.38, with USA swimmer Nathan Adrian fastest in 48.19.
Magnussen said: 'I think it was a step in the right direction, it was a good swim.
'It's an improvement from the other night, I am keeping positive with a smile on my face.
'I took a fair hit in the relay, I am still trying to bounce back from it. It was one of my first failures since breaking into the international scene.
'It is quite an open field in the 100m, if I can get myself back to the sort of form I had at the trials, I have a good chance of winning it.'
Daniel Gyurta headed the 200m Breaststroke heats, while the USA qualified fastest for tonight's 4 x 200m Relay final in 7:06.75.
There was a shock in the women's 200m Butterfly, where Great Britain's world silver medallist Ellen Gandy finished 17th, with USA swimmer Kathleen Hersey leading the way in 2:06.41.
