ABC Wednesday - L is for Lar Gibbon

I've decided to do some postings conforming to the rules of ABC Wednesday. I hope you enjoy them. The first is the letter L...

L is for Lar Gibbon (Hylobates lar), also known as the white-handed gibbon.   It is one of the better-known gibbons and is often seen in zoos.

Historically, the range of the Lar Gibbon extended from southwest China to Thailand and Burma down the whole Malay Peninsula and the northwest portion of the island of Sumatra. It is found in primary and secondary tropical rain forests. In recent decades the continental range has been reduced and fragmented, and the animals are thought to be extirpated in China.

I hope you enjoyed my ABC Wednesday and if so, perhaps you might like to visit some others by clicking on the ABC Wednesday badge.
