Ahmad Sarji, who visited the national archery training camp at the National Sports Complex yesterday, said that on paper Malaysia's archers have a reasonable chance of qualifying and was hoping they will be able to do so at the event to allow Malaysia to also send a women's recurve team to the London Games next month.

"We already have representatives in the men's and women's individual recurve as well as the men's (recurve) team  but are hoping to add a women's team as well," said Ahmad Sarji.

"If (our) archers can do as well as they have done during training today (yesterday) in terms of accuracy, I believe they should have no problems qualifying.

"There are of course variables such as wind and crowd conditions which can influence the players performances, however, the NSC has taken steps to get them used to it."

Three women archers will be  looking to earn qualification at the event --  Shahirah Abdul Halim, Amirah Mohamed and Ng Sui Kim.

Currently four Malaysians -- Cheng Chu Sian, Khairul Anuar Mohamad, Haziq Kamaruddin and Nurul Syafiqah Hashim-- have qualified for the Olympics.

Ahmad Sarji added that the archery team are well prepared for the Games. However,  he is hoping the archers will not be content with their current level of performance but continue to train hard.

"They have a good chance of doing the country proud and we will look to get them the support they need to give them a shot at winning a medal.

"From what I have been told, the archers have gained a lot of competitive exposure in recent competitions.

"I hope they continue to train hard as I believe in the saying that the more you practice the luckier you get."
