KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (Bernama) -- Nineteen national athletes have so far qualified for the 2012 London Olympic Games, namely in shooting, archery, diving, cycling and fencing, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Senator Gan Ping Sieu said.
From the 19 who have qualified, four are from archery, eight from swimming/diving, five from cycling (track and road race) and one each from shooting and fencing.
However, the number would not be the final since the list of shuttlers bound for London would only be known on May 22, he said when winding up speech on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's address at Dewan Negara Thursday.
Gan said the country's hopes of winning a first ever gold medal from the Olympics would hinge on badminton, especially Datuk Lee Chong Wei.
"However, hopes have also been placed on other sports like cycling, archery and diving after splendid performances recently," he said.
