KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- A furniture company has come forward to offer RM1 million as incentive to Malaysian athletes who win gold medals at the London Olympics.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the incentive offered by the company will be over and above the RM1 million incentive given by the government under the Skim Hadiah Kemenangan Sukan (Shakam) to athletes who win gold medals at the Olympics.
"The RM1 million will be shared among athletes if more than one of them won gold medals. For example, if three athletes won gold medals, the money (RM1 million) will be shared among.
"If no one wins a gold medal the money will be carried forward to the next Olympics in Brazil in 2016. This is an incentive to inspire athletes in their quest for gold," he said after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between 3V Holdings Sdn Bhd and the National Sports Council.
The RM1 million was offered by the country's leading furniture manufacturer and exporter 3V Holdings Sdn Bhd.
